The street outside the KBOO studios (20 SE 8th Ave.) will be closed for the broadcast. As part of the marathon, there'll be a block party for homeless folks and folks who care about homelessness There will also be a tent for ongoing performances of poetry and music as well as a tent for just plain listening to the broadcast, and maybe even participating in it by speaking into a microphone and addressing the nation.

There will be food available throughout the broadcast and a hot meal will be served around 7 pm PST.

Portland, Maine

This year the community of Portland, Maine is pleased to invite all community members, advocates, and activists to create a “homelessness awareness village”. Hundreds of people will gather in Monument Square in downtown Portland, Maine to spend the night in a show of solidarity and awareness raising.

Beginning at 9AM on February 5, 2001, Karen D’Andrea of Sound Ecology, heard on WMPG Community Radio, will kick off the 24-hour event with more than a dozen shelters and other service providers educating in Monument Square throughout the day. Karen will be hosting live-remote broadcasts and interviews during the day in addition to a week-long series of panel discussions and public service announcements also aired on WMPG.

Organizations participating include Oxford St. and Family Shelter, Preble St. Resource Center, Milestone Shelter, YWCA, Ingraham, Faith and Hope House, My Choice transitional shelter, The Teen Center at Preble St., the Lighthouse Shelter, Midtown Community Policing Center, WMPG Community and WBLM radio.

Champaign, Illinois

The TIMES Center (70 East Washington Street) will be open from 6pm to midnight, CST, so that visitors can listen to the marathon, which will be carried locally in its entirety on WEFT, 90.1FM. A phone will be provided, which people may use to call the broadcast, and from 8-10pm there'll be an open microphone for a speakout at which participants are invited to share their thoughts about and/or experiences with homelessness. The speakout will be recorded for later broadcast on WEFT. Free coffee and dessert will be served.
